Speck was the top winning harlequin Great Dane in NSW for over three and a half years - two years in a row winning Runner-Up Dane of the Year in the club's point score, with over 60 Danes competing. Speck won over 50 group wins, including Best in Group and Age in Group with 12 In Show wins. Speck retired from the ring on 930 points before he reached his prime. His amazing show career came to an abrupt end with a broken tail (requiring eight inches to be removed). We will never know how far his show career would have taken him.

Turning his time to stud duties and relaxing (what a dane does best!), he has sired 9 Champions, and has progeny throughout Australia, New Zealand, America, Sweden and Denmark. His frozen semen has been shipped to six top harlequin breeders in the USA, one of the top harlequin breeders in Canada and the Crufts 2006 winning kennel in Ireland. We look forward to seeing his progeny in the show ring overseas.

Speck is known throughout the Dane community in Australia for his superb temperament, extraordinary movement and his superb colour, being colour pure back to 1927. He is a true ambassador of the breed and at nearly nine years young he still turns heads wherever he goes. His achievements for his short show career and stud duties are untouched by any other male harlequin in Australia.

"Wonderful temperament, exceptional markings, large bone, typey long fore faced head, tight brown eyes, extraordinary movement, plus height and elegance - this Dane has it all!"

Speck was bred by Grindstone Danes in Southern Illinois, USA aged 15 weeks. Due to quarantine regulations, Speck was not imported to until 11 months of age. Speck arrived to Australia on the 30th of October, 1999. His first show was three weeks later at the prestigious Spring Fair Dog Show. With over 2,200 dogs entered, Speck won Junior in Show on Sunday 21st November, 1999.

“For me, this was the best surprise in the Spring Fair Dog Show. In Europe, we have the same the same type, the same size, the same strong dogs. Another very important question is the colour, because the white is really white, and the black is really black. It is one of the best Great Danes I have seen in my life, and I started judging in 1961.”

Quote by Italian Judge, Mr G Allesandra on Aust Ch Stordansk G'Stone Webe Awesum (Imp USA) on his first outing, aged twelve months.
